Prima Games Shutting Down

The publisher's parent company DK announced this week that the company is winding down operations and will close down after 28 years in business.

While not officially closing until next Spring, the label will not be publishing any new strategy guides for the remainder of this year. The news of its closure was confirmed by PublishersLunch yesterday.

DK CEO Ian Hudson released an internal memo making the announcement, according to a report from Publishers Weekly.

As of writing, Prima Games will no longer be releasing any new guides, aside from the ones that have been commissioned up to this point. After this, Prima Games will cease to exist. While a selection of employees at the Indianapolis office will continue to publish content until March. DK says that it is "now in conversation with all colleagues in Roseville, Indianapolis and NY who have been impacted by this announcement", with the Roseville office set to close as early as mid-November.

I'll also never forget the days of my youth where I would grab a guide to help navigate my way through some of the more obtuse N64 games.

In 2015, Prima purchased and swallowed its biggest competitor, BradyGames, and has been consistently churning out guides for both print and the web, but it wasn't enough to survive what the company called "a significant decline" in the world of print video game guides.

Prima Games will close down fully by Spring 2019.
