Rumour: Valve working on a Half-Life 2 prequel for VR

But they do state that Valve is planning a Half-Life prequel to launch with the device if it does, which is a rumour dating back to 2016.

Though Valve has talked openly of the VR games it now has in development, Valve now partners with HTC's Vive and Vive Pro for VR hardware and there's been no official word that the developer has been working on its own VR tech.

According to UploadVR, Valve's latest project is an upcoming Half-Life game. Two cameras and integrated headphones also appear to be included.

Some photos of a prototype headset, sporting a Valve logo, have made their way onto the internet.

Despite the continued losses, HTC said its gross margin, - which reflects the difference between revenue and cost of goods sold - rose to 4.7 percent in the July-September period from 2.7 percent a quarter earlier because of better controls on costs and stable sales of its virtual reality products.

Perhaps most interestingly, however, is that the same report claimed the headset could come bundled with a Half-Life game.

Video Game enthusiasts will know that Valve is now promoting the HTC Vive as the primary VR headset that Valve's digital distribution platform officially supports.

UploadVR notes that the padding on the back of the prototype Valve headset is similar to that on Valve's third-gen Knuckles controller developer kits, which were unveiled back in September.

This would be a big deal for a number of reasons, not only would Half-Life make its long awaited return but it would also be a big push for the Source 2 engine. Although so far, Valve has been very quiet about any Half-Life or VR related projects. So far, we only have UploadVR's sources to go by with.

Obviously, Valve-time is a real thing, so even if all of this is all legitimate information, it could still be a few years before we see any of it come to fruition.
