Trump again blasts forest management as fires rip California

At least 25 people have been killed in the most destructive blazes in California history.

It has consumed around 83,000 acres, destroyed at least 177 buildings and was 10 per cent contained, Cal Fire said Sunday.

More than 110 people were reported missing in the fire-scorched area, said a spokeswoman for the Butte County Sheriff's office, who declined further comment.

Gusts of up to 96kph and 113kph, the so-called Santa Ana "devil wind", were expected in the Los Angeles area where crews are fighting the Woolsey Fire.

The Scottish star, well-known for his roles in the movies London Has Fallen and 300, has tweeted a photo of the burnt out shell of his Malibu home.

As fire officials from across Ventura and Los Angeles county gathered to speak to reporters on Sunday, beyond the charred and smoldering hills where the Woolsey fire burned through the weekend, the wind was already starting to pick up.

Among the towns under evacuation orders is Thousand Oaks, where a gunman killed 12 people in a rampage on Wednesday.

The Paradise fire is one of three burning across more than 1,000 square kilometres of the Golden State. "You don't know if she's safe". "Pretty much the community of Paradise is destroyed, it's that kind of devastation", said Cal Fire Captain Scott McLean.

With hearses standing by, crews stepped up the search for bodies in the smoking ruins of Paradise, and relatives desperately looked for more than 100 missing loved ones, as wind-whipped wildfires raged Sunday on both ends of the state.

The Woolsey Fire has since been 10% contained, but firefighters are wary of an anticipated increase in winds later today.

The president of the California Professional Firefighters criticized President Trump on Saturday after he threatened to withhold federal payments to the state, claiming its forest management is "so poor". But with strong winds projected through the beginning of the new week, containing the fire will be more hard.

Trump added. On Saturday, Trump also declared a state of emergency in California.

The devastation was so complete in some neighborhoods that "it's very hard to determine whether or not there may be human remains there", he said.

Craig Clunies-Ross and his wife had seen wildfires before and they were prepared when it was time to evacuate their Malibu home.

Huge swaths of California are now on fire. "Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost, all because of gross mismanagement of the forests".

200,000 people under mandatory evacuation in southern California.

"As we drove to safety", the firefighters "risked their lives trying to save our home", Thicke wrote in an Instagram post.

LeRoy Westerling, a climate and fire scientist at University of California Merced, told the San Francisco Chronicle Trump's tweets oversimplified the issue in California.
