Trump on NYT Pence Loyalty Report

Trump on NYT Pence Loyalty Report

It was a phony story. a typical New York Times phony story.

"No, I don't question his loyalty at all". Mike Pence is 100 percent.

"He is 100 percent loyal", the President said to a group of journalists before leaving for California.

The New York Times said Mr Trump has taken to asking several advisers whether the vice-president is loyal - which they say is usually a sign he has "grown irritated" with someone, according to the paper. "They made up sources and refused to ask me, the only one that would know, for a quote", he fumed in a Saturday morning tweet. According to the Times, some of Trump's advisers outside the White House have mentioned outgoing U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley as a potential running mate.

Trump has not openly suggested dropping Pence from the ticket with the 2020 presidential election rapidly approaching, the New York Times stressed.

"I can't imagine any President having a better or closer relationship with their Vice President [than] the two of us", Trump added. Ayers, Pence's chief of staff, is reportedly a front-runner to replace White House chief of staff John Kelly, who has always been rumoured to be on his way out.

Trump also said the outlet "never called me for a comment".

Trump said that he doesn't "at all" question Pence's loyalty and referred to him as "a trooper".

"Mike, will you be my running mate?" he asked, as reporters laughed.

People familiar with Trump's thinking suggested that after loyalists like his longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen, turned on him, Trump has become paranoid about who his allies and enemies are.

"Thank you. Okay, good", Trump said.
