VW Tarok pickup concept revealed in São Paolo

VW Tarok pickup concept revealed in São Paolo

The all-wheel-drive crew cab debuted at the Sao Paolo International Motor Show as a concept, but VW says it is set to go on sale almost as-is. The dual-screen layout will allow for the latest generation of digital displays and controls.

As we mentioned in the earlier article, it features a relatively small tray (compared to the likes of the larger Amarok), but has an innovative "variable loading area" that can be extended thanks to a folding rear panel in the back of the cabin.

Volkswagen has confirmed a series production vehicle based on the Tarok Concept to go on sale in Brazil soon and that to "with barely any changes".

The concept version of the Tarok also features a panoramic sunroof, which may or may not be part of the final package as it's delivered to dealerships.

The four-cylinder turbo is good for 150 horsepower, and being developed for the Brazilian market, the Tarok also runs on pure ethanol (E100) and gasoline-ethanol blend (E22).

Aesthetically, the Tarok builds on the updated VW pickup aesthetic established earlier this year by the Atlas Tanoak concept in ny, which in turn was a neat generation leap over the 2010-present Amarok global pickup truck they now produce.

Volkswagen say that the production Tarok will be able to carry "around a tonne" in its tray.

Volkswagen has succeeded in merging the practical advantages of the Tarok Concept with a lifestyle-oriented design. Mated to it is a six-speed automatic gearbox and VW's 4Motion permanent all-wheel-drive setup. And thus we admire the classiness of the VW Group's nod to the Skoda Felicia Fun, buried a little beneath the surface of this Volkswagen Tarok pick-up. Owners can tumble the back seats and then fold the lower rear cab panel forward, while the tailgate can also form an extension on the other end. It means that users can accommodate longer items using the space provided.
