White House revokes CNN reporter's press pass after clash with Trump

During Wednesdays White House news conference, Acosta and Trump sparred over a question of whether Trump had "demonized immigrants" by calling a caravan of Central American migrants "an invasion".

Ms Sanders commented: "As a result of today's incident, the White House is suspending the hard pass of the reporter involved until further notice".

The New York Times editorialized in favour of restoring Acosta's pass, saying it signaled Trump's view that asking hard questions disqualifies reporters from attending briefings.

Trump's actions during the tense press conference did not sit well with Twitter or Hollywood, who had some thoughts about the president's harsh words.

So, it was understandable when the media and people around the world demanded an explanation for why Acosta was being barred from the White House and the obvious repercussions it could have for freedom of the press, government transparency and our democracy itself.

"(Sanders) provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened.

"They are not only unsafe, they are disturbingly un-American", CNN said. "While President Trump has made it clear he does not respect a free press, he has a sworn obligation to protect it", CNN added.

"What I saw was a battery, not by Jim Acosta, but by the young White House aide", Hostin said on the ABC show on Thursday, according to The Hill.

The clip shows the moment CNN reporter Jim Acosta refused to hand over a microphone to an intern during a heated exchange with US President Donald Trump.

Journalists assigned to cover the White House apply for passes that allow them daily access to press areas in the West Wing.

Acosta took to social media, complaining that the U.S. Secret Service had asked for his credentials to enter the White House.

So, as the president said that the question was racist, and I - he was literally having white nationalists at the White House.

It was the latest in a long history of fiery run-ins between the mercurial Republican leader and Acosta. Acosta asked, as he pressed Trump on the migrant caravan. "But they have to come in legally". Members of the press should be able to say what they want without a mob targeting their families. But the president used rhetoric and his bully pulpit to try to make a point.

'I think you should let me run the country and you run CNN, ' he snapped.

Faux Donald Trump and alleged parking spot-puncher Alec Baldwin said, "Trump attacks Acosta bc he needs someone, anyone, to be worse than him". A White House intern eventually moved to take away Acosta's microphone.

The intern attempted to take the microphone from Acosta, who persisted and tried to shout out one last question.

'That's enough, Put down the mike, ' Trump told him.

"You are a rude, bad person". "Why doesn't CNN and all journalists who check and verify everything they report sue trump for slander?"

His exchanges with CNN's Acosta and another reporter for the NBC network turned bitterly personal, unusual even for the adversarial nature of presidential press conferences.

"I'm not a big fan of yours, either", Trump replied. She said that "on the campaign trail, you called yourself a nationalist".
