Aussie cricketer Usman Khawaja's brother arrested in connection to terror 'hit list'

'I won't be saying much, guys.

"This is a matter for police to deal with".

"Out of respect for the process, it would be inappropriate for me to make any further comments".

Arsakan Khawaja had been arrested by the police in the suburban Sydney on Tuesday and now is being investigated regarding the case and producing false documents, which had the target list of high-profile people and imply his former university colleague Nizamdeen.

The bogus hit list - which included former prime minister Malcolm Turnbull and the Sydney Opera House - was found in a notebook at University of New South Wales on 30 August.

Arsalan is being questioned over an attempt to pervert justice and forgery by making a false document, Australian media quoted police sources as saying.

It is understood Arsalan Khawaja has been taken to Parramatta police station, where he is being interviewed by counter-terror police.

Arsalan Khawaja is expected to be formally charged with forgery and attempting to pervert justice later Tuesday.

He is also not allowed to contact any staff from the IT department at the university.

He's been granted conditional bail, including a $50,000 security.

"We will be alleging that he was set up in a planned and calculated manner", he said.

The Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported Nizamdeen was now planning to sue police.

In October, officers raided the home where Mr Khawaja lives with his parents in western Sydney as part of their search for the person responsible for writing the list.

The charges were dropped in October was released when a handwriting expert could not prove he had written it.

The notebook had allegedly been discovered in a drawer in Mr Nizamdeen's desk at UNSW, where he was working and completing his PhD.

Authorities believe Khawaja and Nizamdeen were fighting for the affection of the same woman, leading to the fictitious plot implicating Nizamdeen.

The 25-year-old is now seeking costs and compensation after he spent four weeks behind bars.

As Khawaja was batting in the nets earlier in the morning in the lead up to the first Test between India and Australia in Adelaide, the news of his brother's arrest broke out.
