Bale snaps drought as Real edge past struggling Huesca

Real Madrid coach Santiago Solari appeared happy to see his team take all three points after a hard battle with Huesca this afternoon: "It's been a while since we saw a game as evenly-fought as this - it's great for the viewing public", the Argentinean told the press after the game.

Huesca squandered golden chances to equalise and earn a famous result against Real Madrid and instead succumbed to Gareth Bale's strike.

The Wales global netted the only goal after just eight minutes - his first La Liga strike in 802 minutes of action - driving home from Alvaro Odriozola's right-wing cross.

"We were in front, Huesca really put us under pressure in the second half, with the wind behind them, and we managed to defend our goal until the final whistle".

The Wales forward, jeered by some fans in the team's league win against Valencia last weekend, hadn't scored in 10 league matches.

Solari told the postmatch news conference at El Alcoraz that the mixture of Bale's quality and his team's character had been key to the win. And we are taking the three points home, which is why we came here.

"In the first half we played well, we controlled the game and we did things the right way", said the Belgian stopper, who made some fine saves.

Levante responded by forcing Paulo Oliveira to turn into his own net 15 minutes from time and Borja Mayoral grabbed the equaliser in the first minute of added time.

The win saw Real Madrid climb back into the top 4, just 5 points away from league leaders Barcelona. The visitors equalized in second-half stoppage time with a goal by Borja Mayoral.

Bale was denied again when his angled effort was stopped by Jovanovic after a move that sprang from the home keeper's poor clearance, with the Wales worldwide being replaced by Marco Asensio as the game entered its final 15 minutes. He scored a great goal and it was enough to get the win.
