CNN's New York Offices Evacuated Over Telephone Bomb Threat

A bomb threat was phoned in Thursday night for the building that houses CNN in New York City, leading to the building being evacuated, the New York Police Department confirmed to CBS News.

MSNBC anchor Brian Williams interviewed WNYC investigative reporter Jonathan Dienst for the latest.

Police searched thoroughly the evacuated building and found nothing to substantiate the threat and later gave the all clear. The caller said five bombs had been planted in the building.

After CNN resumed its live coverage, Lemon said that a "call was made from the southern part of the United States".

"The NYPD is investigating a bomb threat near CNN NYC's office at Columbus Circle", Stelter wrote.

Reacting to the threat, CNN's Chris Cuomo said that everyone was "fine" despite the evacuation.

CNN said several fire alarm bells signaling an evacuation rang inside its newsroom shortly after 10:30 p.m. "We grabbed what we could and go out of the building and now we're standing out front there", Lemon said.

Just two months ago, bombs were sent to the CNN, as well as top Democrats like Barack Obama and the Clintons. It is unclear whether the threat was directed at CNN or another location close by.

"Employees have been evacuated and the NYPD is investigating", they added.

The network's bureau at the Time Warner Center was evacuated in October after a package containing an explosive device, addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, was discovered.
