Dad's Punishment for Bullying Goes Viral

Dad's Punishment for Bullying Goes Viral

Matt Cox posted to a now-viral video of his daughter walking down the road in 36 degree weather as he follows behind in his vehicle.

"She said 'Daddy, you're going to have to take me to school next week, '" Cox said.

It was the second time this year the child had been kicked off the school bus for bullying another student, Mr Cox said as he filmed a video for Facebook while driving behind her.

Commenter Peggy Smeltzer was among the few that expressed concern: "5 miles is a lot for a 10 year old let alone someone older in 36 degree [fahrenheit] weather I agree with you on not tolerating bullying but I think that's too much". "Because I'm doing what I feel is right to teach my daughter a lesson and to stop her from bullying". He also posted a video of her carrying out her punishment to social media, which attracted over 15 million views and thousands of comments. The Ohio father shared video of her punishment as he slowly followed her inside his auto, as she walked in 36-degree weather.

Matt added that he didn't make her walk the entire five mile walk in one go - she did break it up over her three-day suspension from going on the bus.

Mr Cox described the unusual punishment as a "life lesson" and has won applause from many victims of bullying but others have questioned whether publicly shaming a child is an suitable way to teach them right from wrong. "So that was me showing how I hold my kid accountable".

His daughter understood that her bullying was the reason she was forced to walk, Cox said.

The video shows the student walking along a road with her backpack on and another tote in her hand.

Instead, he would make her walk to school.

Matt shared an update on the original post, starting with "lesson learned".

Numerous comments are positive, but others said he was "overdoing it". "I hope that parents hold their kids accountable". "We as parents need to stop the bullying on the home front because bullying only breeds bullying".
