Jake Gyllenhaal joins Instagram and announces he's in Spider-Man

The Oscar nominee has given in and joined Instagram, and if his first post is any indication, we expect a ton of adorableness over the coming months.

The 37-year-old made the revelation by posting a video of himself reading an issue of "The Amazing Spider-Man"; the cover of which announces, "The Return of the Man Called MYSTERIO!".

The role will be the actor's first major part in a superhero blockbuster film.

This marks the first time that anyone involved with Far From Home has confirmed Mysterio's inclusion in the film.

"And there is a sense of the scenes, with the casting in particular and also the storytelling, that you feel that you're actually in a movie with human beings in it".

Editors at The Hollywood Reporter claimed in May that Gyllenhaal was in talks to play Mysterio, and in October, photos from the production in the Czech Republic surfaced online and showed him dressed in a suit and cape.

Spider-Man creators, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, introduced Mysterio in the comics in 1964.

The film see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man. And, with the current rumour-mill suggesting we'll get a Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer at the weekend, we'll bet good money we'll get to see the character in action (why else do the Jake reveal this week?) when it lands.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is a sequel to 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming and is due to be released in July 2019.
