Karl Stefanovic to leave Today Show after 14 years

Karl Stefanovic to leave Today Show after 14 years

Today woke up with you.

ANGRY viewers have lashed out at Channel 9 over news Peter Stefanovic has left the network after 15 years, declaring that the "wrong brother" had been shown the door. Are you sad to see Karl leave?

It follows the shock confirmation yesterday that Peter Stefanovic was leaving Channel 9 after more than 15 years, and claims this his wife Sylvia Jeffreys will follow him out the door.

Headlines have been dominated this year by the Stefanovic surname, with constant speculation and insider reports that Karl is on the way out.

Stefanovic and Wilkins share a close relationship.

Sylvia has been working for Channel Nine since 2005 in various presenting roles, most recently as newsreader for Today, hosted by her brother-in-law Karl Stefanovic and Georgie Gardner.

"Massive. It is impossible to overstate", Wilkins responded.

'Karl remains on contract with the network and will continue to host This Time Next Year, which records in February.

In a statement, Stefanovic said he had "an incredible time at Nine being a foreign correspondent, news reporter and covering some awesome stories for 60 Minutes".

It's the latest in a number of troubles faced by Stefanovic, who is now on his honeymoon with new wife Jasmine Yarbrough after tying the knot in Mexico earlier this month.

Ragless, who declined to comment to The Advertiser, is coming to the end of a three-week stint filling in for Karl Stefanovic on the Today show before taking Christmas holidays.

"It has been a huge privilege to work alongside so many great people", he said.

In a statement following the announcement, Stefanovic admitted "it's been a tough time" but thanked viewers for their support.

Despite recent denials from Channel Nine that Peter Stefanovic was to depart, the news was confirmed on December 17. Thanks for hanging in there.

The negative publicity surrounding Stefanovic's split from ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn in 2016 and swift rebound with Yarbrough has been cited as a major factor in the show's horror ratings in recent years. "I look forward to seeing you in another capacity at this great Network soon".
