Michelle Obama Voted Most Admired Woman Of The Year, Dethrones Hillary

Former president Barack Obama secured another win for the eleventh year as the most admired man with 19 per cent of people mentioning his name.

Obama, who has been on tour touting her bestselling memoir "Becoming", was selected by about 15 percent of Americans in the Gallup poll - far surpassing media mogul Oprah Winfrey at 5 percent, Clinton at 4 percent and First Lady Melania Trump at 4 percent.

According to Gallup, this marks the first time in 17 years that someone other than Hillary Clinton was at the top of the list.

Former first lady Michelle Obama closes out the year with another big accomplishment.

Should Trump leave the Oval Office never having led the list of most admired, he would become only the second US president to do so since Gallup first polled the question in 1946.

Donald Trump was second, named by 13 percent as the most admired.

According to Gallup, the shift is in part because Clinton "has more fully retreated to private life", while Obama has "stepped into that void" by touring the country and openly discussing her life, including a miscarriage almost 20 years ago and her opinion of the current president. "Clinton has finished second on three occasions, third once (this year) and fourth once (in 1992)".

"Clinton has finished first 22 times - more than any other man or woman - including in 1993 and 1994, 1997 through 2000, and 2002 through 2017", reports Gallup. Independents supported Obama at 13 percent compared with Trump at 10 percent.

Eisenhower topped the list 12 times.

She claimed the top spot again in 1997 through 2000. He is now one year short of a record run at the top, according to Gallup.
