South Korea Wants to Achieve Peace, Denuclearization of Peninsula Within 5 Years

Donald Trump wants North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to know that he likes him and will fulfil his wishes, South Korea's president Moon Jae-in said on Sunday, a day after meeting the USA president at an economic summit in Argentina.

News on the summit timeline comes despite the cancellation last month of planned talks between U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and DPRK counterpart Kim Yong Chol, as well as the retirement of CIA Korea Mission Center head Andrew Kim.

"This will be the first time that a North Korean leader will visit South Korea so, although there is no time frame set for that, still that's very meaningful", he continued, adding that a Seoul summit would help improve relations between the US and North Korea.

New Zealand is active in the monitoring of United Nations sanctions against North Korea, deploying an Air Force P-3K2 plane to patrol worldwide waters in North Asia for signs of vessels undertaking activities such as ship-to-ship transfers.

The presumed birthday of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un remains unmarked in the North's calendars for 2019.

"Mr President, I want to commend you again for your personal leadership over the past year to reduce tensions and establish a dialogue with North Korea", she said.

Moon made the comment when asked by reporters during a state visit to New Zealand about the likely timing of a possible trip to Seoul by Kim, who held summits with Moon and US President Donald Trump this year. Moon spoke to reporters on Saturday aboard his presidential plane en route to New Zealand from Argentina, where he met Trump on the sidelines of a Group of 20 Nations summit.

North Korea had been angered by Washington's refusal to ease sanctions and has warned it could resume development of its nuclear program if the United States did not drop its campaign.

Moon has also facilitated a series of high-level talks between the USA and North Korea, including a summit between Trump and Kim in June. "President Trump has a very friendly view of Chairman Kim and he wishes Chairman Kim would implement the rest of their agreement and that he would make what Chairman Kim wants come true,"...
