U.S. teen charged with murder of classmate pregnant with his baby

U.S. teen charged with murder of classmate pregnant with his baby

A pregnant IN high school cheerleader was found slain IN a dumpster - and a football player at her school allegedly confessed he was the unborn child's father, saying he killed her because it was too late for an abortion.

Breana's stepmother, Nicole Rouhselang, told reporters Sunday that Breana had been about six months pregnant at the time of her death.

"I've known her since she was six", she said.

Using a knife he brought from home, Trejo stabbed Rouhselang in the heart, the affidavit said.

According to the charging documents, Aaron confessed that he killed Breana as she waited for too long to tell him about the pregnancy to get an abortion. "I took action, I took her life", he then told police, the affidavit alleges. He said he also brought the bag he placed over her body from home, as well, the court documents stated.

Police found glasses and a stocking cap Rouhselang's mother's described to police.

Police continued to search the area for her and ultimately found her body in a dumpster behind a business, Arendt said.

Arendt says the extent of the relationship between the two youths was under investigation.

Officers questioned Trejo at his home, who initially denied that he had seen Rouhselang, claiming she did not show up when he went to meet her in their hometown of Mishawaka.

The school district in Mishawaka, which is next to South Bend and about 80 miles (130 kilometers) east of Chicago, issued a statement Sunday saying administrators were working with authorities in investigating the "terrible tragedy" and that grief counselors would be available at Mishawaka High School on Monday.

"An autopsy confirmed that Breana Rouhselang died from multiple stab wounds, that her scarf had been tied so tightly that strangulation was occurring before Breana died, and that she was pregnant", Detective Mullins said. Rouhselang also served as the manager for the school's football team, where Trejo was a player.

Chris Fronk, the St. Joseph County deputy prosecutor, said during a press conference that the teen's death is hard to understand. Trejo was arrested not long after the discovery of Rouhselang's body, police say.

Mishawaka High School released a statement Sunday afternoon on Rouhselang's death, saying it was a awful tragedy.

The defendant remains held without bond at the St. Joseph County Jail on a charge of murder.

CNN affiliate WNDU reported that Rouhselang had been a cheerleader and softball player at Mishawaka High School.

'Our focus now is to offer all of the support possible to our staff and students'.
