Unai Emery reveals Arsenal plan for January transfer window after Southampton defeat

Unai Emery is not expecting Arsenal to sign any new players in January, despite the injury crisis now afflicting his squad.

Unai Emery admit he is not optimistic about adding to Arsenal's threadbare squad in the January transfer window following Sunday's defeat to Southampton.

Rob Holding is already out for the season and Konstantinos Mavropanos has not been sighted this term, while Laurent Koscielny appeared well off the pace in his first Premier League start since April.

Defenders Shkodran Mustafi, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Sead Kolasinac are also now out with injuries but Emery said they should be returning soon.

"We don't have a lot of possibilities in January but maybe we can think of someone to sign to help us, but only if we think the other players can't help us with their performance".

"Our progress is also with young players and we need to give them more chances to play and show us their progress".

"The level is very high with the other teams and if we miss out on a win like today, we can not be in the top four because the other teams are usually winning", Emery said.

The defeat ended the Gunners' 22-match unbeaten run and was Southampton's second home league win in over a year.

"I think today is very good news for Koscielny, physically he can play this match 90 minutes". It is not a good result but it was important for us [to have them back].
