Cesc Fabregas completes Monaco move from Chelsea

Struggling AS Monaco have boosted their relegation fight by signing experienced midfielder Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea until June 2022.

The midfielder's switch to the Ligue 1 club brings the curtain down on his four-and-a-half- year Chelsea career, a period in which he won four major trophies.

Fabregas had been a key performer for the Blues in the past four seasons where he had helped the team win two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one League Cup.

"It is a great pleasure to join AS Monaco, a new project for me", Fabregas said in a statement. Have your say in the comment section below.

The 31-year-old will reunite with former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry at the Ligue 1 strugglers.

"I'm looking forward to starting, we have a great match to play in Marseille on Sunday".

He joined Chelsea from Barcelona in 2014, having played 303 times for Arsenal between 2003 and 2011.

But a move for midfielder William Vainqueur from Turkish club Antalyaspor fell through, after he failed a medical due to a calf problem.

'Michy? I know him, we rubbed shoulders with Belgium, he is a player who can be interesting, ' Henry said.

Fabregas fell out of favour at Stamford Bridge since the arrival of Italian manager Maurizio Sarri in the summer, and was keen to move on to get more first-team opportunities.

Chelsea have paid a heartfelt tribute to Fabregas following his departure.

"This is obviously a very good reinforcement for the team and we are convinced that his experience at the highest level will bring a lot to our players on and off the field".
