Criminal Minds to End With Season 15

Criminal Minds to End With Season 15

The good news is the long-running procedural has been picked up for a 15th season, the bad news is it will be the final season for the CBS series, Variety has confirmed.

CBS" EVP of current programs, Amy Reisenbach said that "It is the quintessential CBS hit. "It speaks to everything we do best, which is air quality television". It has been successful not only on air but online, in syndication, internationally for ABC [Studios]'.

Season 15 will be "more serialized" than is characteristic of the drama, bringing to screen a two-part season opener as well as a "major confession" and a Behavioral Analysis Unit member in peril. The final arc will also feature a "worthy adversary" for the team.

The decision to pick up a final installment was made just months ago when longtime executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer was writing the final episodes of Season 14 and asked the powers that be whether to make the ending a season finale with a cliffhanger or a series finale.

Now, before you freak out, you should know that the team will have a chance to say goodbye, as Criminal Minds will end with Season 15 next season, TV Guide has learned. First, mark your calendar for the Season 14 finale, Feb 6 at 10/9c.

Even so, Messer expects the series finale to be a "tearjerker". "So my guess is tearjerker more than anything else, that's how I'd describe it".

With the final 10 episodes, the show will have aired 325 episodes when it ends its run, making it one of the longest-running shows in television history.
