De Minaur takes savage swipe at Aus Open officials

Australia's Alex De Minaur knocked out fellow countryman Jordan Thompson 7-6 (4) 6-3 on Thursday in an all-Australian quarter-final to advance to the final four at the Sydney International tennis meet.

Australian Alex de Minaur emerged from a marathon day of tennis to claim his first ATP title, beating Andreas Seppi 7-5 7-6 (7-5) in the Sydney International final.

De Minaur is one of 12 Australians in the men's singles and seeking to become the first local to win the title since Mark Edmondson in 1976.

"What happened was, he was disappointed that the Australian Open had decided early in the piece that the bottom half of the draw was going to be played on the first day before people knew who was going to be in the final of Sydney and Auckland".

He also showed no sign of nerves, landing 73 per cent of his first serves and bouncing back immediately after being broken midway through the second set and then three times when his world No.37 opponent had mini breaks in the tiebreaker.

Barty, who was runner-up in the Sydney final on Saturday night, weathered on early storm from Thailand's Luksika Kumkhum before winning 6-2, 6-2 in the night session on Margaret Court Arena.

The victory made de Minaur the youngest victor of the Sydney tournament since Lleyton Hewitt also did it as a 19-year-old in 2001.

The 34-year-old Italian's efforts paid off when he broke De Minaur to go 4-3 up but a poor service game allowed the teenager to break straight back and the set headed into a tiebreak.

'And to finally be able to take that step further and get my first win, it's something that's really special in front of friends and family and in the courts I grew up'. "I didn't want to overthink it and I'm happy with the way I composed myself during the match", said Kenin, ranked 56 in the world.

"I thought it wouldn't happen".

"A lot of work, a lot of training, a lot of sacrifice goes into even making a final and to get a win, I'm speechless".

'(But) I felt good out there. I fell in love with tennis after the epic 2008 Wimbledon final between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
