DMX to be released from prison today

The hip-hop veteran has been released from federal prison after serving a one-year sentence for tax evasion.

The "X Gon' Give It to Ya" singer, 48, was released from Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution in West Virginia on Friday morning, according to TMZ.

As previously reported, DMX will attend outpatient programs for substance abuse and mental health, along with paying $2.3 million in restitution for his taxes.

DMX was arrested in 2017 after federal prosecutors in NY say he concocted a multi-year scheme to hide millions in income from the IRS and skirt $1.7 million in existing tax liabilities.

DMX's original release date was supposed to be on Sunday, but it is federal policy to release inmates early if their release date falls on a weekend.

Less than one year later, DMX is returning to the streets. The rapper born Earl Simmons was visibly emotional as he received the judge's order, which came after the former superstar played the courtroom his song, "Slippin'."

"I spoke to him; he's very happy", DMX's lawyer Murray Richman said. The incarceration followed a November 2017 guilty plea from X, who owed a reported $1.7 million in tax liabilities. "He's never been hotter than now - people have been seeking him out all over". According to reports, DMX will be under supervised for three years.
