Driver crashed while participating in 'Bird Box Challenge'

Jake Paul's bird box challenge video has been taken off Youtube.

Police in the U.S. state of Utah have taken the unusual step of urging residents not to drive blindfolded after an online challenge inspired by a horror film led to a crash.

A blindfolded teenage driver in Utah crashed into another vehicle for obvious reasons on Monday, according to the Layton Police Department.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the Layton, Utah, crash, a representative at the police department told CBS News.

Police said they didn't learn about the story behind Monday's crash until Friday. As a result, the main characters have to navigate the world wearing blindfolds in order to avoid their demise.

Despite warnings from Netflix and just general common sense, it looks like people are still participating in that stupid Bird Box Challenge.

He said it was a warning he never thought he would have to give - don't drive while blindfolded.

At 4:50 p.m. Monday, a 17-year-old girl was driving a gray truck east along Layton Parkway when she pulled her beanie over her eyes to attempt the "Bird Box" Challenge, Layton Police Lt. Travis Lyman said.

In the viral challenge, participants attempt to do ordinary things while blindfolded, which, again, is unsafe for obvious reasons.

Netflix already has tried to combat the social media-driven phenomenon, tweeting a January 2 advisory that "Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes".
