Hulk Hogan Returns to WWE Raw for 'Mean' Gene Okerlund Tribute

PW Insider has now confirmed that Ric Flair will be on the show next week.

But Hogan's relationship to the company has warmed over the previous year, and he was reinstated to the Hall of Fame and served as host for the WWE's Crown Jewel pay-per-view last November in Saudi Arabia. He'll appear Monday (January 7) as part of a tribute to Gene Okerlund, who died last week. The Nature Boy first met the legendary announcer in 1972 and remained close to him right up until his death.

On Wednesday afternoon, he shared a photo of himself and Okerlund from the 1980s, along with a heartfelt tribute.

Flair actually spoke to Sports Illustrated about Okerlund last week, saying: "Friend would be too generic a term for us". We were tied to each other for years.

The Nature Boy continued: "In my opinion, Gene Okerlund added more entertainment to the business than anybody". Scott is no stranger to Mean Gene having worked with him in WWE television production as well as being a long time fan of Gene's work during the golden era of professional wrestling.

In an interview with PEOPLE in 2015, Hogan apologized for the remarks he made, which were in reference to his daughter's Brooke Hogan's love life.

Hulkster then setup a video package on "Mean" Gene's career. It's hard to explain how much talent he had. Even if a guy was struggling or a crowd wasn't connecting, Gene had the gift to make interviews work. "I'm happy that the world is giving him his due recognition. There will never, ever be another Gene Okerlund".

"There was no better broadcaster/interviewer than Mean Gene".

Don't miss this milestone moment on Monday Night Raw, beginning at 8/7 C on USA Network.
