LeBron, Giannis named All-Star captains

LeBron James (4,620,809 fan votes) and Giannis Antetokounmpo (4,375,747) led their respective conferences in voting, and will serve as team captains.

The reserves - seven from each conference, selected by National Basketball Association head coaches - will be announced next Thursday.

Fans account 50 per cent of the vote to determine the 10 starters (five players in each conference), which makes Leonard's all-star nod a virtual certainty.

The starters were decided by votes from fans (worth 50 per cent of the total), media members (25 per cent) and current National Basketball Association players (25 per cent).

The 2018-19 season just got a little better for Paul George, as the Thunder's superstar small forward has been named a starter in February 17's All-Star Game in Charlotte.

The 2019 All-Star Game features a similar format to the one for the last year's contest.

It's the third All-Star selection for Leonard, who was also voted into the 2016 and 2017 games when he was a member of the San Antonio Spurs. Last year's draft was not televised. George won a tiebreaker for the West's third front court starting spot over the New Orleans Pelicans' Anthony Davis, who finished third on the players' and media's ballots but fifth in the fan vote. It marks Walker's third consecutive NBA All-Star selection and his first as a starter.

Earlier this month, Twitter user Josman Suri leaked photos of what appeared to be the 2019 NBA All-Star Game jerseys before the league publicly unveiled them. He ranks second among Warriors in rebounding and assists, behind Draymond Green. Rose ranked fourth on the players' ballots and sixth on the media's, while Wade ranked sixth on both.

The 68th All-Star Game - which takes place on Sunday February 17 (8pm local/Monday 18, 1am United Kingdom time) - will be in Charlotte for the second time and the first since 1991.
