Paul Merson opens up about Callum Hudson-Odoi at Chelsea FC

Chelsea supporters lost their minds as Callum Hudson-Odoi was included in our starting eleven to face Tottenham this evening.

In what may prove to be a final roll of the dice in Chelsea's efforts to show the 18-year-old how highly they rate him, Hudson-Odoi started ahead of Pedro at Wembley after Bayern Munich had indicated a willingness to make him the most expensive English teenager.

Hudson-Odoi has refused to discuss a new contract with Chelsea, having been offered a five-year deal last summer.

The Bundesliga side reportedly matched the Blues' £35 million valuation of the player on Tuesday afternoon with their fourth bid, which doesn't include a buy-back clause, but it isn't yet known whether it's been accepted.

Husdon-Odoi was given a rare run out by Maurizio Sarri last weekend in the FA Cup, where he impressed by providing two assists for Alvaro Morata in a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest. He has a very great future here in England, with the national team and Chelsea.

"But when you're getting wanted by the manager to stay at the club, and the manager at your current club doesn't have a say on the future, I just find it absolutely baffling". Of course we have very important players in the same position and I can play with only two wingers.

"To stay here is better for him", the Italian is quoted as saying by BBC Sport. Very good defensive phase, but very good'. I am really very happy with him.

Victor of two FA Youth Cups with Chelsea, as well as the Under-17 World Cup with England, Hudson-Odoi made his first team debut last January in an FA Cup tie with Newcastle. "Sometimes he will be on the bench - as Willian, as Pedro - but now I can start to consider him at the same level".

"He is ready I think", he said.
