SC refuses urgent hearing on plea against film 'The Accidental Prime Minister'

SC refuses urgent hearing on plea against film 'The Accidental Prime Minister'

The matter was mentioned for urgent listing before a bench headed by Justice A K Sikri which said the matter would come up for hearing in the regular course. The film released on 11 January 2019, seeking much more attention after coming to the news of the controversies happening.

While Youth Congress orchestrated the entire protest, officially West Bengal Congress has disapproved the action and said the party would never "oppose freedom of speech", which it values deeply as part of its ideology. The film, which was released today, features actor Anupam Kher as former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The high court had disposed of the writ petition against the trailer but left it open for the petitioner to file a public interest litigation (PIL). A movie titled an Accidental Prime Minister has been made keeping the elections in mind.

It was previously reported that the court has admitted the case and fixed 8 January to hear the case in Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate court.

The movie's producer, director and other key persons associated with the project were also named in the complaint.

The PIL said the film will harm the image of the Constitutional post such as Prime Minister and will give it a bad name nationally and internationally.

The plea, filed through advocate A Maitri, has claimed that "at present if the film is allowed to be released, then it will cause unaccountable damage to the name and fame of the office of Prime Minster of India".

A pat on the back for the team that cast actors for the film. The best part is that it shows the human side of Manmohan Singh though not to a great deal.

Helmed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte, The Accidental Prime Minister is bankrolled by Sunil Bohra and Dhaval Gada under the banners of Rudra Productions (UK), Bohra Bros. and Pen India Limited.
