The Dude from 'The Big Lebowski' has something up his sweater sleeve

The Dude from 'The Big Lebowski' has something up his sweater sleeve

"Can't be living in the past, man. Stay tuned".

See the trailer for The Big Lebowski above and that new video of Bridges as the Dude, below. Then, a lone tumbleweed rolls across the frame, while the date "2.3.19" pops up on screen. While you might automatically assume that means a sequel, the date at the end of the footage says 2/3/19.

It seems like we'll have to wait until Super Bowl Sunday to find out what, exactly, Bridges is teasing, but our best guess is that it will just be another commercial for some product featuring The Dude. In 2016, the Lebowski film-makers Joel and Ethan Coen definitively shot down the proposition of ever producing a sequel. A short video he posted this week implies he could be - at least during the Super Bowl.

It's also possible that Universal is using the same kind of tactic employed by Tourism Australia past year, when a mysterious teaser was released for a new Crocodile Dundee sequel. In fact, it looks as though Jeff Bridges' iconic slacker is making some sort of return next month.

The Big Lebowski wasn't a huge hit at the box office, earning just $46 million worldwide, but it developed a cult audience over the year. The clip is anticipated to be an advert airing during Super Bowl.
