Xander Schauffele shoots final round 62 to win Sentry Tournament of Champions

"The evolution of our streaming partnership with Twitter over the past three years has led to extraordinary feedback from our fans globally", Chief media officer of the PGA Tour, Rick Anderson said.

While McIlroy would have needed a 64 to win as Schauffele carded a course record-equalling 62 to clinch his fourth come-from-behind PGA Tour win in 18 months, he quickly took a leaf out of the book of the mental self-defence of Ryder Cup captain-elect Harrington. This moved Rory McIlroy to 1 under for the round.

'For me I started a lot of these final rounds like two back, three back, ' McIlroy said. "I didn't press at all, I was very patient", McIlroy told reporters.

Failing to deliver in the final round after playing himself into contention is becoming a bit of a familiar refrain for McIlroy.

While it was an impressive finish in Hawaii, it was the 29-year-old's 19th tournament in a row that he has failed to win. I felt like I hit good putts, just couldn't get them to go in. "It's just something I'm going to have to persist in, just keep putting myself in these positions and, honestly, I don't think anyone could have beaten Xander today". He got off to a hot start with two birdies in his opening five holes to get to within two shots of his playing partner, but could only find a solitary bogey for the remainder of the round to end up in a tie for 4th with Dustin Johnson and Schauffele's playing partner Marc Leishman.

"This one will sting", Woodland said. After two birdies on the front nine, the Australian picked up four shots after the turn including a 27-foot birdie on the 12th. He set tournament marks with the lowest closing round by a victor and the largest 18-hole comeback (five shots). He missed his putt from four metres to eagle the 72 hole, but tapped in for birdie and waited for Woodland to finish.

"I've just got to go about my business". "My goal today was to birdie the par-fives and make a couple more and see if that was enough". He had a close call on the 16th, when he tried to atone for the missed birdie on the previous hole by going at the flag and landing just over the green.

"I'm definitely freed up", he said.

"I probably pushed a little too hard, and it didn't really work out for me", McIlroy said.

Here's the top 10 leaderboard after the third round.

"She's been downhill for a little while now", Woodland said.

Schauffele wasn't finished. He hammered a 5-wood onto the green at the 18th to about 12 feet, narrowly missing his third eagle of the final round.
