Aleksander Ceferin re-elected unopposed as Uefa president for four-year term

Uefa president Aleksander Čeferin was re-elected for another four years on Thursday and he celebrated by issuing an ominous warning to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Aleksander Ceferin is a Slovenian lawyer and football administrator.

The 51-year-old Slovenian president of the European governing football body was a sole candidate running in the election, which was held during the 43rd Ordinary UEFA Congress in Italy's Rome.

With FIFA President Gianni Infantino in the audience, Ceferin says UEFA is showing respect for soccer by saying it disagrees with the world soccer body's proposal. We must continue to develop.

Before the confirmation of his second term, Ceferin recalled that ahead of his 2016 election there were reports Europe's top clubs planned a breakaway league, yet that had been averted through "honest, direct and uncompromising" talks with clubs.

Labeled Together for the Future of Football, UEFA's 2019-2024 strategy is based on four pillars - football, trust, competitiveness and prosperity - and has been drawn up in consultation with European national associations, leagues, clubs and players' representative groups.

"I would like to thank again my esteemed colleagues at ECA for trusting me to represent them on the UEFA Executive Committee", said Al-Khelaifi in a statement sent to AFP.

He said there would be no Super League while he was president of UEFA and Andrea Agnelli head of the European Club Association.

The prospect of an OTT service to house competitions and content outside of the flagship Champions League and Europa League club competitions was first raised by Uefa marketing director, Guy-Laurent Epstein, in September.

At a later news conference, Ceferin said he hadn't been given any "concrete information" on the deal since Infantino revealed it last March at a meeting in Bogota, Colombia. "We will be doing more in this area because there remain weaknesses in our system". UEFA member voters gave Greg Clarke a 37-18 win over David Martin, the Northern Ireland federation president.
