Fitbit has a new tracker, but it’s prescription-only

The big picture: Fitness tracker sales to individuals have not been going so well for Fitbit, but corporate partnerships with healthcare businesses and enterprise clients are keeping the company afloat with opportunity for growth.

Fitbit recently expanded its portfolio with two new fitness trackers - Fitbit Inspire and Inspire HR. The company is also offering a variant of the Inspire - Fitbit Inspire HR - with heart-rate tracking and select other features.

Fitbit has quietly launched a new fitness tracker but you can not buy it like the company's previous products.

Price details of the product have not been mentioned as yet as it may vary between employers and service providers but Fitbit clarified that the Inspire it its cheapest product as yet. It's water immune as much as 50 meters, guarantees as much as five days of battery life, and is available in black and sangria color choices. A clip accessory is sold separately. These special trackers are exclusively available through the corporate affiliates of Fitbit, wellness partners, insurance health plan providers and also health system partners.

Pricing on fitness trackers can not be raised all that much without pushing them into smartwatch territory, an area that is notoriously hard to thrive in.

Apart from the leaked images and the fact that the device is aimed at kids, there's no more information available about this fitness tracker at this time.

Fitbit has introduced a basic fitness tracker that it created to be handed out free to end users, Tech Radar is reporting.

Both however feature sleep, calories, steps and other trackers.
