Galaxy Note S Pen might have a camera inside for selfies

Galaxy Note S Pen might have a camera inside for selfies

According to the concept, a camera lens will be located at the rear end of the pen, where a push button is now located. As per the patent document, the camera-toting S Pen would come with a control board created to work in tandem with an electronic device that might well be a smartphone and also features a communication module.

Samsung's S Pen might be a lot more powerful in the future, and could feature a camera and optical zoom, if one goes by a recent patent granted to the company. But an S-Pen with camera hardware would likely be pretty expensive compared to previous versions, so you definitely don't want to lose it. Still not satisfied, it might even add optical zoom that is mostly absent in larger smartphones. Furthermore, not all patents become real-life products anyway.

"The electric pen device includes a control board configured to interact with an electronic device and a communication module configured to communicate by wire or wirelessly with the electronic device, so that an image or a picture taken by a camera is confirmed and an optical zoom is controlled from the external electronic device", the patent reads. The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted Samsung's patent which could ensure that the S Pen also functions as a camera with a superior optical zoom system, reports PatentlyMobile.

All the way back in 2017, when we thought the world was bad but had no idea how awful it was going to become, Samsung filed a patent for a smartphone stylus with a camera inside. However, I would imagine that video calls would be mildly annoying via the S-Pen camera, as you'd need to hold the stylus up for the duration of the call.

Samsung Found A Genuinely Good Reason To Use A Stupid Stylus

Samsung has been granted a patent that could allow the S Pen to sport a camera, optical zoom features as well.

The patent suggests the new S-Pen would have a battery, treading similar ground as the Note 9's stylus. The pen in the Galaxy Note has thus become a truly unique selling point that other manufacturers can not offer - not a bad thing in times of interchangeable smartphone designs.

Samsung started with the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9, but Android Pie will soon move out to older devices like the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8. Samsung's last S-Pen used a supercapacitor to quickly charge the device via the stylus slot. For instance, users can hold down the button on the S Pen to open the camera app, tap the button once to take a photo or double tap to switch between the front or rear camera.
