Jussie Smollett 'Concocted Staged Attack' After Hate Letter 'Didn’t Get Enough Attention'

BT1/Brian To/WENN/NewscomMultiple news outlets have now reported that Chicago police no longer consider Empire actor Jussie Smollett to be the victim of a potential hate crime.

Booker had initially been extremely outspoken about the case, but when a journalist asked him to comment on the most recent developments, he was hesitant to answer.

For instance, The Blaze reports that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who took to Twitter to denounce the "racist, homophobic attack" on Smollett as "an affront to our humanity", has since deleted her tweet.

"This was an attempt by the left to paint Trump [racists]".

President Trump previously condemned the alleged hate crime as "horrible".

Godd*mn. I'm not gonna say yet- until he say it out his mouth that it was fake and this sh*t was staged, I don't wanna completely blame him, because somebody I was talking to- they said police in Chicago are racist.

"We've got all these different instances where the reality doesn't match the narrative", he said. Another spokeswoman, Anne Kavanagh, later said she couldn't comment on whether Smollett had agreed to another interview.

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris pressed on whether she still stands by her characterization of the alleged Smollett attack as a "modern day lynching"; Peter Doocy reports. However, a well-placed law enforcement source tells Deadline that despite emerging and complicating evidence and requests for a further formal interview, Smollett has not made himself available "in a timely fashion" to investigators.

"For Jussie, who's not only a superb actor and singer but an activist who has fought against homophobia and racism and sexism, to be a victim is something that is totally unacceptable", Sharpton told celebrity rumor mill TMZ in the aftermath of the incident. The show has featured a ghost who haunts her living husband, a child whose stepfather is also his grandfather and an amnesia-inducing auto bomb.

But even before these latest details emerged, when I first heard of the attack on Smollett, I had to pause. Sources said the brothers told police Smollett said he wanted to make it a "physical thing", but not to the point he'd be seriously injured.

Police said over the weekend the investigation had "shifted" after they learned new information.

If Jussie Smollett wants to rescue his claim with the Chicago PD, the window may be closing - quickly.

Smollett's lawyers say the actor feels "victimized" by reports that he played a role in the assault.

Smollett, who is also a musician, gave an emotional speech during a 2 February concert in West Hollywood, California, saying he went ahead with the show because he couldn't let his attackers win. He says the men beat him, poured some sort of chemical on him, and placed a rope around his neck - all while declaring, "This is MAGA country!"

DuVernay said: 'Whatever the outcome, this won't stop me from believing others.

"When I sat down with Jussie it was Tuesday night in Chicago, at the time to give his first account, publicly give his first account of what he said happened", Fox News quoted Roberts as saying.
