Lin to join Raptors after Hawks' buyout

Jeremy Lin is apparently ready to hit the court with the Toronto Raptors, even if he has yet to sign his new contract.

The Hawks waived Lin on Monday, and his move to Toronto, first reported by ESPN, had "Linsanity" trending on Twitter.

What does Lin bring to the Raptors?

Toronto Raptors fans know just how lethal Jeremy Lin can be. The video of his memorably buzzer-beater in Toronto made the social media rounds.

The trade with the Memphis Grizzlies for Marc Gasol took away some of their depth (Delon Wright, C.J. Miles), and Raptors president Masai Ujiri quickly suggested the team would "attack" the buyout market after the trade deadline. Toronto could surely use Lin in the lineup, serving as the primary playmaker off the bench while Fred VanVleet is sidelined for at least the next three weeks with an injured thumb. You saw him guard Dwyane Wade in the playoffs.

Lin's salary - $13.8 million for the 2018-19 season - makes it impossible for a team to claim him off waivers.

Lin played in 51 games for the Hawks this season, starting one, as he is averaging 10.7 points, 3.5 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game thus far.

The plan to enter into an agreement with Lin comes one day after the Raptors finalized the conversion of two-way player Chris Boucher's contract to an National Basketball Association standard contract.

The Toronto Raptors hold down the second spot in the East fairly comfortably right now, entering Monday's action tied in the win column with the Bucks and two back in the loss column at 41-16. He's been part of three previous playoff runs, in 2013 and 2014 with Houston and in 2016 with Charlotte.
