NBA All-Star Game Draft

NBA All-Star Game Draft

With the first pick of the draft, James drafted Durant (again).

Both teams were set Thursday, in the first ever televised NBA All-Star Draft, when LeBron James proposed a trade to Giannis Antetokounmpo.

After the starters were selected, Antetokounmpo and James made a show out of the reserves, especially after Antetokounmpo picked his teammate, Khris Middleton first, setting up James' first bench pick, Anthony Davis.

It comes after Davis put in a trade request with the Lakers as one of his primary destinations, and talks between the Lakers and Pelicans dissolved (or maybe never existed from the Pelicans' point of view).

"Tampering rules do not apply on All-Star Weekend", James replied with a chuckle.

The All-Star game is on February 17, Sunday, at the Spectrum Center.

James managed to make a trade, convincing Antetokounmpo to swap Westbrook for Simmons - and give the Bucks' star the chance to have Westbrook and Embiid together, as he said he wanted. He previously hinted at taking the Warriors guard with his first pick, returning the favor of Curry taking Antetokounmpo with his first selection past year.

The NBA found a clever way to get around that while paying tribute to a pair of legends about to leave the stage, adding the Heat's Dwyane Wade and the Mavericks' Dirk Nowitzki as "special team roster additions" and setting up a final draft round comprising just those two. James took Wade, his former Miami and Cleveland teammate and longtime close friend. That outcome was "definitely on goal", Antetokounmpo said.

"Everyone in the world knows who I'm going with". Doing it live was not feasible since James and the Lakers were playing Thursday night in Boston.
