Police receive redacted phone records from Jussie Smollett regarding reported attack

Police receive redacted phone records from Jussie Smollett regarding reported attack

A neighbor claimed to have seen a "redneck" with a rope but Chicago police were unable to find video surveillance from the area to support this.

Smollett has now reportedly released a heavily redacted record of his calls to police however, police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the records "are not sufficient and do not meet the burden of a criminal investigation", according to the Chicago Tribune.

On Monday, a spokesperson for Smollett told the New York Post in an email that phone records from Smollett's manager, Brandon Z, "were sent to police on February 5 and Jussie's records were sent over this morning".

Smollett did not initially submit his phone records to investigators when asked.

Chicago police told TheBlaze there was "no mention of MAGA" in initial reports, but when detectives followed up with Smollett later on the day of the attack, he recalled the attackers making those comments, and detectives completed a supplemental report.

A patron at Lizzie McNeill's Irish Pub, about a block from the scene of the alleged January 29 incident, said Smollett's story "doesn't really make sense".

Smollett released a statement on February 1 addressing the attack.

Further lending credence to Smollett's claims, police have confirmed to the outlet that surveillance footage from Smollett's building shows the actor walking around with rope around his neck.

A statement from Smollett Tuesday came after a police spokesman said that Smollett this week turned over some but not all of the phone records that detectives asked for and that the records he did provide were heavily redacted and insufficient for a criminal investigation.

It has been two weeks since "Empire" star Jussie Smollett alleged he was assaulted by two men who yelled racial and homophobic slurs at him, put a noose around his neck, and then poured an unknown liquid on him.

Last week, The Post traced Smollett's likely route to the underpass from a 24-hour Subway sandwich shop where he bought a tuna sandwich and a salad.

Just yesterday, we reported an unidentified person who was a patron at an Irish bar a block from the scene of the alleged attack, said: "It's a lie, because Chicago is the most liberal city around".

"I've been in this neighborhood five years".

According to TMZ, the Chicago Police Department has rejected the file that was sent by Jussie Smollett because it was reportedly redacted from its original form.

Late Monday evening, ABC7 Chicago reported that an empty hot sauce bottle that smelled like bleach was found near the location of the alleged attack.
