XFL hiring a big name coach

The relaunch season for the XFL kicks off in 2020 on Saturday, February 8 and Sunday, February 9, the weekend following the NFL's Super Bowl.

NBC reports that former Oklahoma Football coach Bob Stoops is expected to be the head coach of the Dallas franchise.

"At first I thought it probably wouldn't be for me", Stoops said.

Jim Ross noted on Twitter that he is close friends with Stoops and he is very excited about the news and he praised the league for hiring him.

Stoops hasn't coached since retiring from his position at OU in June 2017. He left Norman with a.798 winning percentage and a 190-48 record.

Powell's POV: It's a big name hire for the XFL and the press conference will be held just two days before the rival AAF league holds its first game. But I respect the guys running things.

A source lose to Stoops told ESPN that he liked the idea of getting back into coaching without it being overly time consuming. "The opportunity to put it together and help it grow". Wrestling entrepreneur Vince McMahon is backing the venture again.

Despite Stoops' name coming up virtually every time a major college or National Football League head coaching job came open, he stayed in Norman until announcing his retirement before the 2017 season.
