Cadence of Hyrule Blends Zelda With Crypt of the NecroDancer

Well, this is very different and pretty damn cool.

Brace Yourself Games, the studio behind the rhythmic dungeon crawler Crypt of the Necrodancer, is taking a crack at making its own Legend of Zelda game-with Nintendo's blessing. It's out this autumn. The new game is from Brace Yourself Games and is a crossover with the iconic Crypt of the NecroDancer.

During the Nindies Sowcase, Nintendo also revealed that Cuphead is coming to the Switch in April as well. The first footage shows the shopkeeper from Crypt of the Necrodancer, as well as segments that have Cadence, Link, and Zelda fighting.

The game will play much like Crypt of the NecroDancer, in which you have to beat a series of 25 randomly generated tile maps with enemies by completing musical puzzles, only the puzzles will feature songs from Legend of Zelda. "To our surprise, Nintendo was extremely interested in the prospect, and before we knew it we were working on a completely new title, mashing up NecroDancer with The Legend of Zelda!". Wait for the music to kick in when you watch the clip below: it's great.

Nintendo announced Cadence of Hyrule during its Nindies Spring Showcase today.

Sure, we've seen Capcom make Zelda games and Sega make an F-Zero entry (that actually happened, right?), but a Vancouver team that made a Steam indie hit getting to make something Zelda-related-that's something else. "The Legend of Zelda".
