Harry Potter Wizards Unite: Everything You Need to Know

Harry Potter Wizards Unite: Everything You Need to Know

Today, WB Games and Niantic just announced the release of Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, their new augmented reality (AR) mobile game.

The premise around Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is that wizards and witches from around the world are being called upon to help investigate and contain a Calamity that has befallen the wizarding world, odd appearances of magic crossing over into the Muggle world.

The basic premise is that an unexplained calamity from the wizarding world is scattering traces of magic across the real world, or muggle world, in Harry Potter speak. Their job will be to collect magical Foundables in the Muggle world and send them back to the Wizarding world by chasing them down.

"Your journey begins as a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, established by the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards for the goal of investigating and containing The Calamity", the details read. Also like Pokemon GO, players are split into teams, or "Professions" in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite: Aurors, Magizoologists and Professors.

It also seems like Harry Potter: Wizards Unite will have Poke Stop-like areas, except here it sounds like they will be Inns.

There's no doubt that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is exciting and will have a lot for Potter fans to engage with, but for the casual gamer, it's been done before and that could means that some won't be as interested in giving it go. But where Pokemon Go is largely about collecting, Wizards Unite is focused on immersing you in its world, from a voice-acted story to involved RPG-like skill trees.

Those Foundables will function basically like Pokémon in Pokémon Go-players must hunt them down down in the game's augmented reality, but then, instead of catching them, players will destroy or neutralise them with spells. These host real-time multiplayer battles against risky enemies called Wizarding Challenges. However, since the game is now in pre-registration we likely don't have much longer to wait. You'll even come across ingredients that can be used to brew Potions, which will aid you in different aspects of your gameplay. You place Portkeys to turn wherever you are into a wizarding world location for a short amount of time, using the AR features to view places like Ollivanders in 360 degrees.
