'Multiple' people injured in reported shooting in Dutch city of Utrecht

"Several shots were fired in a tram and several people were injured". Local media are reporting counter-terrorism police at the scene.

RTV Utrecht reported police were looking for a red vehicle in connection with the attack.

The Utrecht police Twitter account said: "A shooting occurred on the #24oktoberplein in #Utrecht". Three helicopters have been dispatched.

The shooting is now over, however the police operation is ongoing and emergency responders and ambulances are at the scene, according to CNN.

An anti-terror unit and emergency services have been sent to the scene, and a square at a tram station in a residential area has been cordoned off. The paper also quoted a police spokesperson as saying officers were searching for the suspect or suspects behind the incident.

A witness, Jimmy de Koster, told RTV Utrecht he saw a woman lying on the ground shouting: "I didn't do anything".

Police said a man opened fire at passengers on a tram in the area of 24 Oktoberplein.
