Walmart tipped in talks to launch its own game streaming service

Games are streamed to these devices from the Google data centers and we have already seen a demo of how easy it is to switch from one device to another. No, instead it's the platform's promise of enabling players to view a game being played on YouTube and instantly deciding to start playing the game from where the person in the video was.

"No, not technically possible".

"We think we can grow a very significant games market vertical", he said.

Google Stadia is a new gaming platform that allows gamers to play games on any device with a screen.

Walmart is reportedly looking into a potential game streaming service. Player settings, leaderboards, matchmaking tools and other data related to the game would "not necessarily" have to reside on Google's servers, Phil Harrison, a Google vice president, said in an interview. While anyone with an internet connection can theoretically connect to Stadia (or OnLive, or Project xCloud, or any of the other services now in development or already discontinued), how fast does their connection need for solid performance?

Google is aware that Stadia won't be an option for everyone on launch day, especially in countries where average connection speed still lags far behind.

Google announced Stadia will be released in the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and Canada.

Stadia is set to release this year, but that's all that's known.

Both Nintendo and Sony have seen their shares take a bit of a tumble following the Google Stadia reveal on Tuesday.

And while Google's network of data centres is massive, Harrison admits that there will be some locations in the world that won't be close enough for an optimal streaming experience. "Game development is like gas: it expands to fill available space, and we want to the volume [of that space] to continue to grow".

The Stadia technology sounds really great in the demo video.

We know now that cloud gaming is the future of gaming, period. And we don't expect the transition to be immediate.
