Australia's wonder-mare Winx wins 33rd straight in final race

The Australian wonder-horse, Winx, racked up a 33rd straight win and a third consecutive Queen Elizabeth stakes in the final race of a remarkable career on Saturday.

Winx kicked off her 2019 Sydney Autumn Carnival campaign with a win in the Group 2 $250,000 The Star Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on February 16 followed by a win in the Group 1 $600,000 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Randwick again two weeks later.

"So you prepare for the races to say well, if she is not as good as she was the previous start or the previous year, she will be retired".

Winx strolled away to beat Japanese runner Kluger and Hartnell in the $4 million race that she has now won for the past three years.

As well as finishes her career with 33 consecutive wins, Winx bows out with 25 Group One triumphs.

"We'll keep her around the stable for probably four or five days so everybody can just spend a bit of time with Winx for who she is, and that's just basically a pet", he said, before later adding.

The dream team of Bowman and mighty mare Winx.

The world's top-rated turf horse sprinted home in front of 50,000 people at Royal Randwick in Sydney.

Thanks girl - Hugh Bowman's face says it all.

"I don't think anyone is more deserving than Chris of getting his 100th Group 1 victor with the best horse that has ever gone around in the world, " he said.

"There's been so many great horses and if she's even spoken about in the same sentence as Phar Lap and your other great horses, even in recent years Black Caviar, she was undefeated, and your Kingston Towns, everybody's got their favourites".

Such is her legend that Winx has become more than just a horse in Australia.

Earlier this week, however, Waller said he didn't think Winx had anything left to prove and he wasn't interested in taking her overseas.

"It sure has. I hadn't thought about winning a race like today ever in my lifetime". "Because I tell you there are times I haven't wanted to".

"Whether they are here at Randwick today, but all around Australia, New Zealand, the world".

That determination makes her a champion but Waller is unwilling to call her the best ever.
