Disney+ streaming service to launch in U.S. on November 12

Disney revealed the news on their Twitter account on Thursday, as they revealed further details of the new subscription service. A lot was covered during the almost 3-hour presentation, so let's dive in on everything you need to know.

Disney+ is scheduled to launch in the US on November 12, 2019 and will cost $6.99 per month (or $69.99 annually).

Among highlights of the reveal included offline downloading, allowing users to download content and access it without an internet connection - something several movie and music streaming services have already made a standard in the industry. The film that kicked off the MCU, "Iron Man", will also be available on the first day of service. One of the biggest dilemmas will centre on how long Disney waits after a new film's theatrical release to make it available on its new streaming service. That includes "Captain Marvel", which came out earlier this year; "Avengers: Endgame", which debuts in late April; and the upcoming "Toy Story 4", live-action movies "The Lion King" and "Aladdin;" and "Star Wars Episode IX".

Available from the get go will be Disney's "vault" classics and signature collection, including "Dumbo", "The Little Mermaid", "Snow White", "Frozen", and more. This confirms a Wall Street Journal report from Wednesday that said Disney Plus would launch in November.

In the first year, Disney+ aims to offer up 7,500 television episodes and 500 films from the Disney library. Apple, AT&T Inc's WarnerMedia and others plan new streaming services. It fits the family-friendly brand envisioned for Disney+, unlike 20th TV's other hugely popular animated series, Family Guy, for example, which is probably too racy. Like the original comic, the animated series will be an anthology.

Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany will reprise their roles as Wanda Maximoff and The Vision in a series titled WandaVision. Each of the Marvel Studios produced live-action series will run between six and eight episodes. Peggy Carter will be the focus in the first story, after she takes the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers.

Alan Tudyk will be in the Cassian Andor series: We've known for a minute that Diego Luna will return to the Star Wars series based on his Rogue One character, Cassian Andor.

Executives said they see opportunities to take its ESPN+ sport streaming video service to Latin America and are looking into worldwide expansion of its Hulu streaming video business, which offers movies and shows targeted to adults.

More than 250 hours of National Geographic documentaries and series will be on Disney Plus on day one, including award-winning films like "Free Solo" and "Jane" and series "Brain Games" and "One Strange Rock".

Lots of Fox titles, including shows like Malcolm in the Middle and movies like The Princess Bride.
