Duke's RJ Barrett enters 2019 NBA Draft

In his first career game for Duke, Barrett broke the school's freshman scoring record with 33 points and six assists against No. 2 ranked Kentucky at the Champions Classic. He became one of our best defensive rebounders, and was close to triple-doubles quite a bit because of his scoring, rebounding and assists. He went on to set the ACC's freshman record for total points with 860 and is second in single-season points among all Blue Devils, behind only J.J. Redick's senior year.

During his one-year career at Duke, Barrett average 22.6 points, 4.3 assists and 7.6 rebounds per game, with many agreeing that his game will translate even further to the National Basketball Association level with additional spacing.

The Blue Devils' season ended in a 68-67 Elite Eight loss to Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament.

"It was wonderful to play for Coach K, play for the brotherhood". After discussing with my family and coaches, I have made a decision to declare for the 2019 NBA Draft.

"It was a dream of mine to play at Duke, ever since I was a young kid", Barrett said in an Instagram video on Wednesday. "He comes from an incredible family, he's a victor in every sense, and it was so special to have RJ in our program". He is more than just a scorer, finishing second on the team in assists with 4.3 per game. The freshman averaged 7.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists and recorded just the program's fourth triple double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists against NC State on February 16.

"I just wanted to thank everyone for all the love and support you've given us all season", Barrett said. I hold that very near and dear to my heart. He sent a ton of love to the "Duke Crazies" and said that he would look forward to coming back to Durham to support the Blue Devils.

Barrett is widely projected as a lottery pick.
