Freshman Democrat Ocasio-Cortez says cutting aid to Israel 'on the table'

Freshman Democrat Ocasio-Cortez says cutting aid to Israel 'on the table'

"You want to tell people that their concern and their desire for clean air and clean water is elitist?" said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.

Speaking with CBS News' Lesley Stahl on "60 Minutes" Sunday, Pelosi downplayed Ocasio-Cortez's role in the Democratic Party. "I think it's certainly on the table, and I think it's something that can be discussed".

In the early days of her primary campaign, Ocasio-Cortez had linked herself to the show. "US-Israel ties must supersede politics", the group wrote on Facebook. However, that doesn't mean she's necessarily a fan of social media platforms.

Ocasio-Cortez appeared on the Yahoo News podcast Skullduggeryon Sunday, and since the Season 8 GoT premiere was just a few hours away, the conversation made a natural stop in Westeros.

"They'll find somebody to challenge her in that district... somebody more moderate I think will take her lights out".

"I think these are part of conversations we are having in our caucus, but I think what we are really seeing is an ascent of authoritarianism across the world. And I said don't talk like the Founding Fathers on Twitter". "Increased isolation, depression, anxiety, addiction, escapism".

Ocasio-Cortez struggled to address questions related to Israel while running for Congress last summer, admitting in one interview she is "not an expert" while also defending comments where she accused the Israeli military of a Palestinian "massacre". "Like every once in a while, you'll see me hop on Twitter on the weekends, but for the most part, I take consumption of content, when it comes to consumption and reading, I take the weekends off".

While many of Ocasio-Cortez's critics and fans believe that her social media game is her greatest strength, Ocasio-Cortez has become a frequent punching bag on social media as numerous things that she posts are false, offensive, or both.
