Harvick wins pole at Richmond Raceway

Three teams failed inspection multiple times and will start at the rear in addition to having their race engineers ejected for tonight's Toyota Owners 400 (7:30 p.m. ET, FOX).

Harvick turned a fast lap at 124.298 miles per hour Friday for the 27th pole of his career and his second this season.

Logano appeared to have a vehicle capable of taking the victory in his own right for much of the 400-lap race, running Truex down and passing him to win the second stage as he led 52 laps in the middle portion of the event.

Erik Jones will start on the outside of the front row, with Kurt Busch and Joey Logano in the second row. Three weeks in a row I felt like we had a auto that could win the race and we haven't won.

A second scheduled practice was rained out.

The format was three rounds of five minutes each and unlike recent qualifying sessions there was no controversy with drivers waiting too long to go out on track and miss putting up an official lap time. With those drivers moving to the back, Kyle Larson, who was 14th in the second round of qualifying Friday moves into the top-10 for Saturday's green flag.

Truex regained the lead for the last time with just more than 80 laps to go.

"I think here it is not really a necessary thing because cars wanted to go out early and it doesn't allow teams to cool off and go back out in the same round to improve their time", he said. "I think that's the reason why you need to enjoy it in pro sports because you know, odds are, this ain't going to keep happening".

Nascar is only 8 out of 36 races and Busch is on a pace to win at least 13 runs and as he says he has great hope of winning more races because the year has been successful.

Truex led the most laps on Saturday, but he had to hold off Joey Logano and Clint Bowyer over the final 50 laps.

"At that last restart, I tried something a little bit different and it didn't work out".

"I'm really excited to win here at Richmond".

But when Truex went low to block that maneuver in turn three on the last lap, Logano was forced up high to try and diamond the corner, going where Truex wasn't in the end. The victory also earned Custer a $100,000 bonus as the top finisher among four drivers who qualified.

However, he'll likely wonder what might have been, after coming up a few feet and a lap or two short of another Cup Series victory on Saturday under the Richmond floodlights.

Justin Allgaier dominated the first half of the race and finished third, followed by Tyler Reddick and Ryan Sieg. He is ranked up six top five, our stage wins, and 498 laps led.

John and Brittany Force topped qualifying Saturday in the Mopar Express Lane NHRA SpringNationals at Houston Raceway, the first time a father-daughter duo has swept the nitro categories.

The 69-year-old John Force had a 3.888-second run at 319.29 miles per hour in a Chevy Camaro in the first session.

John Force has a record 16 Funny Car season titles.

Brittany Force had a track-record pass of 3.661 at 332.18.
