Microsoft is going to address a big problem with new release

The company has already confirmed that this is the way it will stay for at least a month, as the company does everything possible to avoid a repeat of the much documented (not to mention moaned about) problems with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, Build 1809. Microsoft now recommends Windows 10 Home and Pro users to upgrade to a newer version of the OS, and we really invite you to follow this advice.

Now that the support is ending today, you should be looking at something that is more modern, continuously updated. But twice each year, there's a short period where the Fast and Slow rings are shipping the same build as will be used for the stable release of the twice-annual feature updates.

It's not clear exactly how long an "increased amount of time" is, given that previous Windows 10 feature updates haven't spent any time in the Release Preview ring before being unleashed on the public.

As Microsoft flagged last week, the Windows 10 May 2019 Update, aka 19H1 and 1903, is nearing a mainstream release.

Also, in the past, once the finalized version was available in the Release Preview ring, it meant no more reinstallation of test builds, instead you'd only get quality updates to address last minute bugs.

The build is available to "seekers", meaning those in the Release Preview ring will need to manually initiate the update. As above, visit the Settings Update & Security Windows Update menu, and click Get Started.

If you're not an Insider, you can sign up even now and be a part of things, though with the usual caveats - remember it's in testing for a reason, don't make it your daily driver just yet.

As for the changes brought by Windows 10 May 2019 update, it will let users decide whether or not to install an update. Microsoft plans to release the May 2019 Update at the end of May. "OEMs will begin manufacturing new PCs and devices with this same build, and both OEMs and ISVs will begin deployment of the May 2019 Update internally with their employees".

While this method gives you early access to the final version of the May 2019 Update, you should be aware that releases in the Release Preview channel can also cause issues.

After you select the ring, Microsoft will ask you confirm the Windows Insider Program agreement.

LeBlanc also urged Windows Insiders to check their settings to ensure users are on the right ring before the company merges the Fast and Skip Ahead tracks.

Windows will now prompt you restart the computer.
