Multiple people shot by gunman outside popular nightclub in inner Melbourne

Emergency services scrambled to the Love Machine nightclub in Prahran, southeast of Melbourne, near Little Chapel Street and Malvern Road.

Police were investigating but no arrests have yet been made.

At least four people got injured, two of them critically, after a shooting outside a nightclub in inner Melbourne on Sunday, police confirmed.

Three of the men were aged between 29 and 50, with the age of the fourth yet to be determined, police said.

Police believe multiple people were shot during the incident and say a 28-year-old man and another who is yet to be identified are in critical conditions.

"Police are urging people to avoid the area", the statement added but did not give any more details including the condition of the victims.

"The exact circumstances are still being established", they said.

Australian newspaper The Age said investigators are likely to examine links to a motorcycle gang.

March was the deadliest month for shootings in Victoria in a decade, with five people shot and killed in Melbourne in four separate shooting in less than a fortnight.

The country saw its worst incident since then a year ago after seven members of the same family died in a murder-suicide.
