No women's Masters in Augusta National's future, says chairman

For the first time since 2013, Woods arrives at Augusta National healthy and boosted by a recent victory.

"Our focus throughout our history has been on, as far as our efforts to promote the game outside of the Masters have always been, on amateur golf", Augusta National chairperson Fred Ridley said on the eve of the Masters on Wednesday.

Predicting how the world No 39 will fare this week is no easy task, but after last year's encouraging Masters debut, he's primed for his return to Augusta. I put myself there with a chance to win the last two major championships of the year last year.

Mickelson already has a career befitting one of the game's greats, having spent over 25 years on the PGA tour, with 195 top-10 finishes, 44 PGA championships and five major wins.

"I can say I feel comfortable with that". "And I would never rule him out".

The Masters begins on April 11 at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga.

"He'll be licking his lips about the four golf courses at the four majors this year and I'll be really, really surprised if he doesn't win another major in the next couple of years".

"Jack Nicklaus did it at 46 years of age and I just think that there's going to be something else, some other big achievement from Tiger Woods before he retires".

Nowhere does the Tiger mystique hang over an event more than at the Masters.

Each of the last four winners - and seven of the last eight - have been first-time major winners, a trend Rahm certainly hopes to continue.

The 14-time major victor rebounded from spinal fusion surgery to win his 80th career US PGA title in last year's Tour Championship after threatening at the British Open and PGA Championship.

"I definitely think it could have been better".

But a victory in the Tour Championship last year not only showed he can still compete and win at the highest level but gave Woods some sorely needed confidence heading into the first major of the year.

Another is the Par-3 contest over the short course around Ike's Pond on the eve of the Masters, before honorary starters Nicklaus, 79, and Player, 83, get the tournament under way on the first tee Thursday.

In truth, the tournament is wide open, and a coveted Green Jacket beckons for the man who can get in position and withstand the crackling atmosphere of a Masters Sunday afternoon. I get a rush out of pulling off shots that sometimes I only dreamed about pulling off, and to see some of the reactions. Jordan Spieth finished third at -13.

"I think what we would like to do, and hopefully will achieve, is doing things that will benefit professional golf, benefit professional women's golf, and all of golf".

"It's electric. I've heard it and I've felt it and it's exciting to be part of", added Woods.
