Worknesh Degefa and Lawrence Cherono stormed to Boston Marathon success on Monday, with the women's title won after an impressive solo run and the men's race ending in an exciting sprint finish. The second place finisher, two-time victor Lelisa Desisa, finished one second slower, according to race officials.

Linden finished in 2 hours, 27 minutes, almost 13 minutes faster than when she battled through icy rain to win in 2018.

DuChene competed in her first Boston Marathon in 2005, and finished the race in about three hours.

Shiloh Schulte of Kennebunk and Meg Brockett of Portland were the fastest ME runners in Monday's 123rd Boston Marathon. Kenyans Kenneth Kipkemoi (2:08:07), Felix Kandie (2:08:54) and Geoffrey Kirui (2:08:55) rounded out the top five in the men's elite race.

Woknesh Degefa ran alone for the last 20 miles winning the women's race.

Other Maine runners with notable times were Robert Ashby, 50, of Brunswick, who placed third in his age group and 294th overall in 2:38:23; Evan Graves, 37, of Caribou in 2:44:20; and Julian Gazzelloni, 27, of Belgrade in 2:44:52.
