Will the Lakers hire Ty Lue as next Coach?

The Los Angeles Lakers have reportedly honed in on Tyronn Lue and Monty Williams to replace Luke Walton as head coach next season.

Walton was teammates with the Kings GM when he played for the Lakers. "Divac and Walton are meeting this weekend", ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

As disappointing as 2018-19 may have been, the mandate with James on board and a handful of new veterans was a substantially different one than the one Walton originally signed on for.

Walton and Divac could not be reached for comment, but others in the National Basketball Association were quick to react, including Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

In announcing the end of his tenure, the Lakers said severing ties was a mutual decision between the franchise and Walton. Collectively, Lakers players missed more than 210 games due to injuries and the team used more than 25 different starting lineups this season. It might also have not helped that Walton and current Lakers superstar LeBron James were drafted the same year, albeit Walton being drafted much later (R2; P2).

Walton worked as an assistant with the Warriors from 2014-16.

Now, for the fifth time since Phil Jackson last sat on the Lakers' bench in 2010-11, the Lakers will be looking for a new head coach to attempt to revive the proud franchise and take it to the postseason for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

"They are losing somebody who the players believe in and the players want to play for".
