How To Get One-Day Delivery From Walmart

In other words, you can't order a $3 toothbrush and expect it to arrive the next day without paying extra.

Walmart says NextDay is a standalone, curated shopping experience with customers able to browse 220,000 of its most frequently purchased items.

The move will cost Walmart less as orders will be delivered from warehouses closer to the customer and arrive in a single box instead of multiple packages, Lore said. The service, which Walmart is calling NextDay, is available in Phoenix and Las Vegas and is expected to launch in Southern California later this week. It will roll out gradually over the coming months, with a plan to reach approximately 75% of the US population this year, which includes 40 of the top 50 major USA metro areas, according to the company. There is no membership fee for the service, but there is a minimum purchase requirement of $35. It is available on eligible orders of $35 or more. This will enable Walmart to ship items in one box, or as few as possible, for a shorter distance via less expensive ground shipping. The announcement comes not even three weeks after Amazon announced it would speed up its two-day Prime shipping to one day for eligible items. Membership costs $119 a year.

Lore pointed to the development of Walmart's two-day shipping and one-day grocery delivery programs as key to the development of NextDay. Everything in the cart must be eligible for next day delivery to qualify.

The company also created a grocery pickup and delivery service that is expected to provide pickup in 3,100 stores and delivery from 1,600 stores by the end of the year, covering 80 and 50 percent of the USA population, respectively.

After coyly hinting about a major shift in its shipping policies, Walmart has filed the latest salvo in the retail wars, announcing free one-day shipping starting this week. They'll find toys and electronics in the separate tab for the feature, as well, though the items available will vary depending on their location.

Walmart has been planning free next day shipping for a while. The free offer to consumers keeps Walmart "in the game" against online rival, Inc. Target already offers free one-day shipping, but only to members of its REDcard loyalty program, which does not carry an annual fee.
